Willow Road Culvert Replacement Update #1

Excavation

The Willow Road Culvert Replacement Project began on Monday, June 6th.  A project page is available on the Town website with information on the project and updates:https://www.town.boxford.ma.us/home/pages/culvert-replacement-project-89...

Below is a end-of-week update from DPW Superintendent/ Town Engineer Chris Olbrot.  We thank all residents and West Boxford businesses for your patience as we work to complete this critical culvert project efficiently and ahead of schedule.

Update ( 6/10/22)

The contractor mobilized this week and began the culvert reconstruction.  First, the contractor installed the necessary erosion controls and control of water.  The contractor then removed the pavement to predetermined limits and began demolition of the old guard rail and began excavation for the new culvert.  The town’s concerns were verified upon uncovering the existing culvert in its entirety. The bottom 1/3 of the corrugated metal culvert was non-existent and its joints had separated allowing for the surrounding soil to migrate and erode. The precast concrete footings were being installed on 6/10 in preparation for the headwall and culvert installation scheduled for next week. Detour activity is actively being monitored and additional traffic control devices were installed to mitigate the negative effects to the extent possible.
