Memorial Day Remembrance/Veterans' Assistance Fund

memorial day

The James L. Melvin American Legion Post 379 is coordinating Boxford's Memorial Day Remembrance activities on Memorial Day weekend.  Click on the documents below for a list of event details.

Please consider donating to the Veterans' Assistance Fund.  To donate, choose "online payments" on our website home page, www.boxfordma.gov.  This will bring you to City Hall Systems.  Choose "donation" from the menu titled "select bill type".

What is this fund?
The provisions of MGL Chapter 60, Section 3F allow the taxpayers of the Town of Boxford to Voluntarily donate and pledge an amount of not less than $1.00 to this fund.

What costs qualify for assistance?
The funds raised will go toward three approved uses outlined in the state law – food, transportation, fuel assistance (heat and oil) – to assist Veterans in need within the Town of Boxford.

What about assistance with housing costs or rent?
Unfortunately, housing costs are not allowed under the law and the Town of Boxford cannot pay direct costs towards housing. If you need housing assistance, we encourage you to still contact the Veterans’ Officer to discuss other possible assistance.

Do all donations actually go to Veterans?
Yes. It is important to note that 100% of the funds received go directly to Boxford Veterans.

I’m a Veteran and could use some assistance or I know a Veteran who needs assistance. Who do I call?
Call the Veterans’ Services Office at (978) 688-9525.
