Music Downloads

What is Freegal?

Freegal is a downloadable music service. All you need to access it is your Boxford Town Library card number and your PIN. Freegal offers hundreds of thousands of songs, over 100 genres of music, and more than 50 record labels, all without having to download any software.

How Freegal Music Works:

  • Library users have a limit of five downloads per week. Your counter will set back to zero each week, Monday morning. Then you can download three more tunes during the new week.
  • The downloads are all in the MP3 format with no DRM. This service will work with any MP3 player, including iPods, and can be loaded into iTunes. It works on both PCs and Macs.
  • You will be able to keep track of your downloads in the upper right corner of the site. Every song has a sample clip you can listen to before you download.

Some Helpful Tips:

PIN

  • Your PIN number is the same as your password for your regular MVLC Library Account. To change your pin, come to the Circulation Desk with your library card or identification.
  • If your pin number doesn’t work or you have any trouble logging into your account, call the Library at 978-887-7323. Have your library card ready and the staff will help you.

Click and Save

  • When you’re ready to download a track, click the “Download Now” link, select Save at the prompt, and designate where you want to save the song. Anytime you click on the “Download now” link, even if you cancel the download, the download counts toward your weekly allotment.

Recent Downloads

  • Once in a while, your Internet connection may be interrupted or time out and you might experience an incomplete or problem download. Freegal Music allows you to download previously downloaded songs again, without using up one of your weekly downloads.
  • If you have any comments or questions about this service, please contact Reference Librarian Beth Safford at esafford@boxfordlibrary.org.
